So what do the results show?

The turbidity levels in Oxley Creek are extremely high in the section from Oxley upstream to Forestdale. The highest reading was obtained where Beatty Rd crosses the creek at Willawong/Acacia Ridge. This section of the creek contains many sand extraction operations and these may be contributing to the high levels of turbidity in this section of the creek.

Generally the turbidity levels in the tributaries of Oxley Creek are low. However levels in Blunder Creek were not monitored so this needs further work. There is one area of concern at Parkinson in a newly developed section of Ridgewood Heights Estate. This tributary is known to contain a population of rare frogs. The high reading may be an indication of the disturbance occurring during land clearing and the building of housing.

Brisbane City Council has derived water quality objectives for waterways in the Brisbane area. BCC has set the objective for turbidity at 20 NTU. Using the results above, Oxley Creek does not reach this objective.

Further information about water quality of Brisbane’s waterways is contained in the publication "A City-wide Assessment of water Quality in Brisbane’s Creeks, October 1999- April 2000", Environmental Technical Report No. 39 by G. Webb, Waterways Scientific Services, Environmental Protection Agency, Queensland Government.
